George Chao has served as the GM of Spoonflower since October 2023. George has more than 20 years of experience building and growing brands and businesses across all sizes, from startup to billion dollar P&L, and across all business models, from DTC to omni-channel retail to traditional CPG and mass merchants.
He was most recently the CEO of Jetson Health, a DTC dietary supplement startup where he built a subscription-based business from scratch and expanded the brand into physical retail by securing placement at Walmart and Target.
Prior to that, George was the President & COO of Vosges Haut-Chocolat an omni-channel manufacturer of premium chocolate with a factory in Chicago and distribution via e-commerce, physical retailers, owned stores, and B2B. At Vosges, he turned around the business after years of losses by building a high-performing team and simultaneously growing revenues through new merchandising initiatives and reducing costs across all aspects of operations.
At McKinsey Academy, a digital learning EdTech venture, George built the sales, marketing, and client service teams and led all aspects of business development and commercialization.
George was also the Head of Strategy for Mars in charge of Corporate Strategy and serving as an internal consultant for all business units worldwide. As a Senior Buyer at Target, he led both Private Label and National Brand businesses and scaled new ventures such as Fan Central (licensed sports apparel and hard goods).
His favorite job though were his two years as a Stay-At-Home dad when his daughter was three years old.
George has served on the board of Jane Hamley Wells and currently sits on the board of the German International School Chicago.
A native German, George has a Master in International Business from the University of Bamberg and a MBA from Western Illinois University. He lives in Chicago with his now thirteen-year-old daughter and the two of them enjoy time together as foodies and world travelers. When not with her, he ballroom dances, paddle boards, films TikTok videos, or crochets scarves.
